How is fractional CTO different from a consultant?
A consultant typically delivers a one-off report or recommendation and moves on. We embed in your business like a part-time executive instead — holding ongoing strategic ownership of your technology roadmap, architecture decisions, and team building over the course of the engagement, not just handing over advice and leaving you to implement it. That continuity is what gives you real accountability.
Can you work with an existing engineering team?
Yes. We regularly partner with in-house engineering teams rather than replacing them — providing leadership, mentorship, and architectural oversight where a team has strong individual contributors but lacks a senior technical voice setting direction. That typically means running architecture reviews, unblocking technical decisions, and coaching senior engineers toward greater ownership over time.
Do you work remotely?
Absolutely. Most of the engagement — strategy sessions, architecture reviews, roadmap planning — happens remotely, and we serve clients across South Africa and internationally on that basis. For teams based in or visiting Cape Town, on-site sessions are available when it's more effective to work through a problem in person.
When should a South African startup hire a fractional CTO?
